New Vegan Menu at Ask Italian

Ask Italian have recently introduced a vegan menu, which includes bruschetta, baked dough balls, pizzas with a range of toppings (sadly no vegan cheese), and three different pasta dishes. There’s also a salad which sounds nice and filling, with avocado and butterbeans, plus sorbet for dessert.

You can check out the full menu here, selecting your local restaurant from the drop down menu at the top, or ask for a copy in the restaurant.

It’s great to see so many chains introducing vegan menus and clearer labelling.

As well as offering a completely vegan pizza, Pizza Express give you the option of taking in your own vegan cheese, which they will add to a pizza of your choice.

Here’s what they say:

All of our pizzas are made by hand so and can be ordered without the toppings that otherwise make them unsuitable for vegans.

Our pizza bases are completely free of animal and dairy products. Our famous passata sauce is made from tomatoes, salt, pepper, fresh basil and oregano.

Introduced in spring 2014 is our first ever dairy free, vegan friendly pizza, the Pianta; fresh and earthy in flavour, combining spinach, chestnut mushrooms, pine kernels and artichokes, on a spicy Arrabbiata base.

Unfortunately we don’t have a vegan cheese but you can ask for any of our other pizzas to be made without cheese.

You are also welcome to bring in your own vegan cheese to top your pizza, provided that it is in a sealed pack, in date and the date is clearly visible on the pack. Our pizzaiolos can either return to you the rest of the pack or dispose of it. It cannot be brought in/kept at the restaurant for repeat use.

Pizza Express also offer several gluten free options, see here for info. To see the full allergen menu, click here.

Update 2017: Pizza Express now offer vegan cheese which can be added to any pizza, and a dedicated vegan pizza, the vegan Giardiniera.

Nando’s official answer to the question: Is There Anything On Your Menu Suitable For Vegans?

Nando’s are not a vegan restaurant, but we do offer non-meat products on our menu which can be seen here. You can filter by dietary requirement on the left hand side to only display the vegan options we offer. We’d recommend our Veggie Pitta, but you need to specify “no mayonnaise” as mayo is a standard ingredient containing egg. Our bastes are all meat, egg and dairy free, so you can choose which ever you want. Though we are not a vegetarian restaurant, we do take specific steps to segregate our non-meat products from our meat products: We choose a specific part of the grill for cooking only non-meat product, Separate utensils are always used with non-meat products, Separate bottles of the Nando’s bastes are used exclusively for basting the non-meat products. Full ingredient listings are available in all of our restaurants, just ask the duty manager to see the Food and Menu Specification Folder when you visit. We’d recommend telling the restaurant team when you order that you’re vegan, just to ensure they’re extra careful!
