What to Have on Toast When You’re Vegan (Best Vegan Toast Toppings)

Ahh, the ultimate quick and easy comfort food – who doesn’t love something on toast? And being vegan doesn’t mean you don’t still have loads of yummy choices.

Buttery Spread

Want something quick and easy? Try one of the lovely butter substitutes – Flora Dairy Free is popular for its realistic ‘buttery’ flavor, and Vitalite is a great budget option.

For something a little fancier, try Pure Olive Spread or Flora Freedom with Avocado Oil and  Lime.

Marmite

Marmite – love it or hate it – is quick, easy and delicious – and gives you a good dose of B vitamins, too.

If you’re feeling more adventurous, how about combining with a non-dairy soft cheese, such as Violife Creamy? You could even top the whole thing with jam. Sounds weird?  Don’t knock it till you’ve tried it!

Jam or Marmalade

Most jams and marmalades are vegan, so plenty of choice there. Combine with peanut butter if you like!

Nut Butters

Peanut butter isn’t the only option out there! Experiment with almond, cashew, and more. WowButter is another option that’s vegan-friendly and 100% peanut-free, making it popular for school packed lunches.

Biscuit Spread

Another delicious sweet option is biscuit spread – something like Lotus Biscoff – available in Crunchy and Smooth.

Beans

Have a little more time? Good old-fashioned baked beans are great, but don’t ignore more exotic varieties like spicy beans or taco beans which are available in most supermarkets.

Tomatoes

Got a tin of chopped tomatoes in the cupboard? Warm them up and add salt and a few drops of fiery Tabasco or Sriracha sauce for a quick spicy hit.

Tinned Spaghetti

And on the subject of tins, how about some tinned spaghetti?  We all know how much fun hoops and letters are, no matter how old we are.

Avocado

Avocado – everyone’s favourite superfood – is great chopped and smashed on toast. Either eat it as it is or pop under the grill for a few minutes. For extra flavour, chop in some tomato and top with chilli, salt and pepper.

Mushrooms

Chop up some mushrooms and cook for a few minutes in water or oil, with garlic, salt and pepper added.  Pile on top of your toast for a warm and satisfying snack.

Houmous

Houmous tastes amazing on toast and can make a nice alternative to cheese in toasted sandwiches, since it melts slightly when warm.

fox dark choc chip

These Fox’s Chunkie Cookies are the definite winner for us as far as taste goes. Nice and crunchy/crumbly, not too sweet, with extra large chocolate chips. These are a great treat, and are quite often on offer for £1 in various supermarkets. It’s also worth checking bargain shops, as these can sometimes be found there too. Be sure to pick up the dark chocolate version – there is also a milk chocolate version which is not vegan friendly.

The classic Hobnob biscuit, filled with chocolate chips – what’s not to love? These always go down well with both vegans and non-vegans, and are perfect for dipping into a cup of tea. Ultimate Vegan Toast Combo (Sweet)

Too lazy to make dessert? Make this strawberry-chocolate-biscuit-y-toast instead – you won’t regret it.

Pictured below are all the ingredients you’ll need:

Toast + Lotus Biscuit Spread + Strawberries + Drizzle of Choc Shot = DELICIOUS

P1010084

It might not be the prettiest snack in the world, but it does taste great! We find Lotus Spread can be a little too dry on toast, but the juicy strawberries solve that problem, and make it feel a little less unhealthy. A drizzle of Choc Shot liquid chocolate is the perfect finishing touch.

If you already have these ingredients in your cupboard, give this a go! Let us know what you think, and whether you made any variations.
